Following on from our successful Politicians in planning event last year, we are pleased to be hosting a similar event on 15 October 2026 at Burnavon Arts Centre, Cookstown.

What to expect:

The event will focus on Shaping better Places and is aimed at elected members and those involved in planning committees. The programme is designed to explore the issues that matter to elected members, support informed decision-making and strengthen confidence in the planning process.

What you'll gain:

  • Understand the strategic priorities shaping the future of planning in NI
  • Explore the value of planning in creating better places and stronger communities
  • Strengthen your confidence in making robust planning decision-making through the latest planning law and policy updates
  • Learn how effective member-officer partnerships support good governance and better planning outcomes
  • Share experiences and discuss common challenged with other elected members and planning professionals

This event is eligible for up to 4 hours of CPD and covers the following subjects from the core CPD framework:

  • Championing planning
  • Placemaking and design
  • Planning law and process

Recommended for elected members, heads of planning and planners involved in planning committees.

Getting to the venue

Burnavon Arts Centre is based on Burn Road, Cookstown.

By train: Dungannon train station is about a 49 minute bus journey away.  The No.80 bus will take you from the train station to James Street bus stop which is a 2 minute walk from the venue.

By bus: the venue is along the No.80 bus route and is a 2 minute walk from James Street bus stop.

By car: You'll find several car parks nearby.  Please be aware of the time limits in the car parks. 

By taxi: Taxis can drop you off in front of the venue.

Before you set off, it's worth checking for any updates – e.g. ongoing roadworks in the area that might affect your journey.
