Public health and planning: From policy to delivery

08 September 2026 at 12:30 - 14:00
Organised by RTPI Yorkshire

An ever-growing body of evidence highlights the vital connection between our health and the places we live. The quality, affordability and location of housing, the design of neighbourhoods, access to services and infrastructure, and the wider impacts of development decisions all play a crucial role in shaping health outcomes and inequalities.

These factors can be influenced through the spatial planning system — but are often most difficult to shape once delivery pressures and viability constraints come into play.

What to expect:

  • Housing delivery in practice – how policy translates into bricks on the ground, and where public health can influence delivery, quality and long-term outcomes
  • Viability, profit and health – balancing development viability with embedding health from the outset
  • Learning from delivery experience – insights from local authorities, public health teams and planners

What you'll gain:

  • What emerging practice can be shared to support healthier housing outcomes
  • How public health, planning and regeneration teams are engaging with the housing delivery processes

Opportunities to effectively embed health within constrained development contexts
This session will be relevant to planners, public health professionals, housing and regeneration leads, and others involved in shaping and delivering development at local and regional level.

Hosted by the Royal Town Planning Institute and developed with partners across the North of England — including the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Directors of Public Health (YHADPH) Planning Healthy Places Community of Improvement — this webinar will explore how Planning and Public Health can work together to navigate delivery challenges and improve health outcomes
