Core CPD Framework:

- Climate change and environmental planning

  • 1.5 CPD hours

The production of lengthy, complex text for reports with additional documents is common practice today, but quantity is no substitute for quality. Beside the disproportionately long reports, the ineffective written communication also had negative consequences towards environmental assessment approaches.

Getting the EIA reports right with clarity and focus is important to ensure a project’s environmental risks and opportunities understood by the readers and considered in the decision-making process for all planned development.

We developed this training for those who participate in Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Reports across the UK: Consenting managers, Planning Officers at local authorities and government departments; Planning and environment consultants.

For those who have heavy workload and tight deadlines for screening, scoping, writing EIA reports. Who want to convey critical environmental findings within the planning process (risks and opportunities) and deliver better development outcomes for communities.

Training goal

This expert led short training session will help to address this challenge. We will cover principles to set out the key information that needs to be prominent in such reporting. Ensure you are aware of the required content coverage.

You will improve your judgment on what to include for the end users to help their decision-making process. You will learn about how to write more engaging and better structured text in EIA context, while keeping the report short and focused.

Learning outcomes

  • You will understand the principle messages the EIA reports need to convey at different stages and the related legislations.
  • You will have more understanding about the needs of the end users reading EIA reports.
  • Learn about how to write the text which include legislative requirements, and cross-references to examples (like renewable energy). Explain and correctly use specific terminology as you go.
  • How to structure the chapters with clear narrative while presenting your key findings
  • How to write effective summary and conclusions backed by clear reasoning and related evidence
