What to expect:

Join the RTPI West Midlands Young Planners for a practical and insightful CPD session on development viability in today’s ever-evolving planning industry. We’ll explore the emerging draft NPPF and what it means for viability testing, affordable housing negotiations, and scheme deliverability. The session will also unpack current market pressures and the impact of economic uncertainty on development appraisals, offering valuable guidance for professionals navigating these challenges.

Learning outcomes:

  • Explain the core principles of development viability and their role in planning decision making.
  • Analyse emerging draft NPPF changes and their implications for viability testing
  • Understand the effects of draft NPPF proposals on affordable housing requirements and negotiations

This event is eligible for up to one hour of CPD and covers the following subjects from the core CPD framework:

  • Development and Infrastructure Planning and Housing.  

Suitable for students, early career planners, or anyone interested in learning more about development viability and how it is applied in day-to-day planning and development practice.

Getting to the venue

CBRE offices are at 1st Floor, 3 Chamberlain Square, Paradise, Birmingham, B3 3AX.  Please report to the main building reception and you will be advised on to how to get to the CBRE office

By train: Birmingham New Street is about a 10‑minute walk from the office.
Birmingham Snow Hill is around 12–15 minutes on foot. 
Moor Street station is also within walking distance (around 15–18 minutes).

By bus: The office is located on Chamberlain Square / Paradise, close to Centenary Square, and is served by multiple city‑centre bus routes.
Nearby stops include Library / Centenary Square / Paradise Circus, providing frequent services in and out of the city centre. 

By car: There is no on‑site parking, but you’ll find several car parks nearby, including options around Great Charles Street, Snow Hill, Paradise Circus and the city centre, all within a 5–10‑minute walk.
Please note the building is within Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone.

By taxi: Taxis can drop you off on or near Chamberlain Square / Paradise Circus, approximately 100–150 metres from the building entrance.

Before you set off, it's worth checking for any updates – e.g. ongoing roadworks in the area that might affect your journey.
