RTPI Michael Welbank Bursary
This programme, commemorating the work of former RTPI President Michael Welbank MBE, is open to students on RTPI accredited undergraduate degrees at Planning Schools in London.
The aim of the bursary is to encourage diverse talent into the planning profession in London and in doing so, support the development of a rich pipeline of planners for the future.
Therefore, we welcome applications from students from groups and backgrounds under-represented in the planning profession, in particular, applications from students of Asian, African or Caribbean heritage, from minority communities and/or those who are disabled, or are able to demonstrate hardship due to personal or domestic situations, including for example caring responsibilities. We also invite applications from those who have enrolled via the university’s widening participation programme.
A single, one-off payment of £2,300 will be awarded to successful recipients. Recipients can use their bursary to purchase equipment to support their studies or as a contribution towards travel or living costs associated with their studies.
Applications for the 2026 Welbank bursaries are closed.
Applications for the 2027 Welbank bursaries will open in March 2027.
