Building on our ‘One Institute’ approach

The RTPI aims to work efficiently as one institute, advocating on behalf of one profession.  We recognise that our nations and regions are vital to our success – which is why our approach blends corporate consistency with local delivery. We describe this as our ‘One Institute’ approach.

Our nations and regions enable us to build and maintain relationships with members and other key stakeholders. Through them, we can support the profession locally and nationally, promote planning as a career, and meet the needs of members via CPD events, networking opportunities and awards. Our nations and regions also provide a wealth of opportunities for enthusiastic volunteers who collectively contribute to the ongoing success of our Institute.

Over the past five years, we have involved the nations and regions in some important corporate projects, including our new brand strategy, our international strategy, our One Institute Charter, the delivery of our volunteering strategy and Volunteer Hub, our awards and our education policy review.

Our advisory group of volunteers is in place to ensure that we take a collaborative approach to decision making

We will keep drawing on the strengths of our nations and regions as we build on our ‘One Institute’ approach. We will embed early engagement, collaboration and co-design into the development of new products and services that meet members’ needs and services.

Additionally, we will continue to involve the nations and regions in corporate projects and ensure there is regular, constructive and ongoing dialogue between the RTPI’s corporate team and the nations and regions. We will ensure we remain relevant for all our members across the nations and regions who are navigating increasingly devolved and diverging planning systems. Furthermore, we will work with the nations and regions to develop approaches for enhancing joint working and the sharing of information and good practice.
