The RTPI announces winners for 2025 Awards for Research Excellence   

The RTPI is delighted to announce the winners for the eleventh edition of the RTPI Awards for Research Excellence.   

The awards recognise and celebrate leading spatial planning research from RTPI-accredited planning schools and RTPI members.  

Entries were submitted for the Patsy Healey Award for Academic Excellence, the Sir Peter Hall Award for Wider Engagement, the Tony Crook Award for Early Career Research, the Student Dissertation Award and the Practitioner Research Award.  

There are five winning entries covering a range of issues affecting the planning profession, including tackling inequality in housing design, protections for ancient trees and mobility hub networks.

The winners were announced at the UK-Ireland Planning Research Conference drinks reception in Belfast. 

Jason Slade (co-author): Winner of the Patsy Healey Award for Academic Excellence
Jingyi Zhu (co-author): Winner of The Sir Peter Hall Award for Wider Engagement
Guibo Sun (co-author): Winner of The Tony Crook Award for Early Career Research
Giuseppe Bonomo: Winner of the Student Dissertation Award
Sarah Curnow: Winner of The Practitioner Research Award
