Planning leaders recognised in 2026 New Year Honours List
Leading figures from across the planning profession have been recognised in the 2026 New Year Honours List for their outstanding contributions to town planning, public service and community development.
Anna Rose has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to planning. Anna is Head of the Planning Advisory Service (PAS) at the Local Government Association and Chair of Public Practice.
Reflecting on the honour, Anna thanked the colleagues and organisations that have supported her work, paying particular tribute to the PAS team and Public Practice for their collective efforts.
Stephen Kelly, Joint Director of Planning and Economic Development at the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning Service (GCSP), has been awarded a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to town planning.
Under Stephen’s leadership, GCSP has received multiple national accolades, including RTPI Planning Authority of the Year (National Award), the RTPI Silver Jubilee Cup, and several RTPI Excellence in Planning awards. His work has focused on innovation, service quality, youth engagement, community wellbeing, and responding to the climate and nature emergencies.
Simon Creer, Director of External Affairs at the Royal Town Planning Institute, said: “On behalf of the RTPI, I want to congratulate those recognised in this year’s Honours List on this acknowledgement of their work. It’s great to see the profession recognised for the important role it plays in improving people’s lives.”
