MoU signed between UK and Nigerian planning bodies to strengthen global practice
The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in response to the growing urban challenges faced by cities globally.
The MoU aims to establish a framework for cooperation between the two professional bodies, creating opportunities for planners and development professionals to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and build capacity through international collaboration.
Under the agreement, both institutions will support:
- Mutual invitations to conferences, seminars, training programmes, and professional events
- Dialogue and structured knowledge exchange to advance planning practice
- Sharing information on professional membership routes and CPD
Commenting on the signing, Helen Fadipe, President of the RTPI in 2025, said: “International collaboration is central to our shared commitment to advancing the science and art of planning. The RTPI is proud to count many planners of Nigerian descent among its members, including those who hold membership of both organisations.
“Through this MoU, we reaffirm planning as a positive force for global sustainable development, capacity-building, and professional excellence. We very much look forward to developing this collaboration and creating meaningful opportunities for exchange and mutual learning.”
The President of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners TP Dr Andrew Ogbonna Chime, FNITP said: “The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners is glad to be associated with the Royal Town Planning Institute and looks forward to deepening our relationship for the benefit of the young town planners in Nigeria.”
