Connecting planning, people and place: the RTPI at UKREiiF
It’s that time of year again! The RTPI team will be heading up to Leeds to join key political figures in national and local government, our sister Institutes, built environment stakeholders, and many of our members, for another busy three-day UK Real Estate Investment and Infrastructure Forum – UKREiiF.
With this year’s UKREiiF expected to host more than 16,000 delegates, it’s a vital opportunity for us to engage with key decision-makers in the built environment and promote our theme for this year: “delivering positive outcomes through planning”.
Inspired by the RTPI’s President, Jan Bessell’s, presidential campaign, ‘planning with purpose’, our delegates will be attending panels, roundtables and receptions outlining and promoting the integral role planners play in delivering positive outcomes for the communities they shape.
Below are the core events in the RTPI delegation’s calendar where we’d encourage members to join, engage with discussions, and network with colleagues across sectors.
Towards a genuinely plan led system – the future of development plans in England
Wednesday 20 May, 12:00 – 12:45, LandTech Pavillion, red zone, UKREiiF conference
Kindly hosted by LandTech, this RTPI panel, chaired by our President, brings together the RTPI’s Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Robbie Calvert, North East Combined Authority’s Assistant Director of Planning, Louise Sloan and Prior + Partners’ Planning Director, Tom Venables to explore the new plan-led system in England.
Our speakers will delve into the future of local plans, alongside the return of strategic planning and discuss the opportunities of a truly plan-led approach. There’ll be the opportunity for a Q&A with the audience in this session, so make sure to bring your thoughts and questions on all things development plans.
Collaborating to shape the future built environment workforce
Wednesday 20 May, 6:00 – 8:00pm, 36 Call Lane, Leeds LS1 6DT
Join RTPI delegates at our drinks reception, co-hosted with the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and hear keynote addresses from our President, alongside a prominent MP.
Collaboration, skills and the people behind the creation of our places will be the focus of this networking event. RTPI members will get the opportunity to engage with fellow professionals in the built environment, with discussions on the future of our workforce and the role of our Institutes in helping to shape that.
From graduate to chartered – understanding the journey
Thursday 21 May, 1:30 – 2:30pm, Dockside pavilion, pink zone, UKREiiF conference
Our Chief Executive, Rachel Fisher, will be joining this interactive workshop exploring town planning as a career and detailing the routes to RTPI chartership. If you know a student interested in the built environment or an early career planner who will be at UKREiiF, please do encourage them to come along to the session, find out more about our profession and the value of being an RTPI Chartered Town Planner.
