Affiliates, Licentiates, Students and Retired members
Affiliates, Licentiates, Students and Retired members do not need to demonstrate CPD and PDP requirements at the time of rejoining.
Chartered, Fellow, Associate and Legal Associate members
If your membership lapsed within the past 12 months. you do not need to demonstrate CPD and PDP requirements at the time of rejoining, however the RTPI monitors members' CPD activity on a regular basis and those chosen are selected randomly from the membership database.
If you are rejoining as a Chartered, Fellow, Associate or Legal Associate member and have been lapsed for more than 12 months, you must also meet continuing professional development (CPD) and Professional Development Plan (PDP) requirements.
CPD requirements
A key benefit of employing an RTPI member is your commitment to keeping your knowledge and skills up to date through continuing professional development (CPD). In any two-year period, members are required to undertake 50 hours of CPD.
When rejoining, the RTPI needs to see that you are ready for re-entry into a professional membership category. You are therefore asked to evidence 25 hours of CPD in the 18 months leading up to your reinstatement.
CPD can be taken intensively meaning that you can apply as soon as you achieve the 25 hours; you do not need to spread the CPD over the entire 18-month period.
A CPD template is available. You should refer to your RTPI Practice Advice on CPD
PDP requirements
You also need to submit a current PDP to show the steps you will take to progress or maintain your professional competence once you have rejoined the RTPI.
A PDP template is available here and under our resource section below. You should also refer to our RTPI Practice Advice on CPD and our PCP resources.
These requirements also apply to any current retired member wishing to revert to their previous professional class of membership.
