Scotland events

We support RTPI members to develop their skills and knowledge. We do this through:

  • organising national events such as our Annual Conference, the Sir Patrick Geddes Commemorative Lecture, and the Scottish Young Planners' Conference
  • organising local, free or low cost events across Scotland through our seven Chapters
  • organising events and support for young planners through the Scottish Young Planners' Network
  • working with organisations to coordinate CPD provision for planners
  • supporting Planning Aid for Scotland and Built Environment Forum Scotland to provide CPD opportunities for our members
RTPI Scottish Young Planners' Conference 2026

The RTPI Scottish Young Planners' Network (SYPN) holds an annual conference which looks at topical issues in planning. This year’s Conference will be held at Dynamic Earth, Edinburgh, on 24 April.

2025 Scottish Young Planners' Conference Write-up

What is the purpose of planning? That was the question put to delegates at the Scottish Young Planners’ Conference 2025, held at the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh on a (thankfully) rain-free spring day on 1 May. You can read an account of the day from the Scottish Young Planners' Steering Group below:

Sir Patrick Geddes Commemorative Lecture

Patrick Geddes is widely regarded as the founder of modern town planning. Every year RTPI Scotland holds a Commemorative Lecture to advance Geddesian thinking and to stimulate debate and discussion on key planning issues.
