Committees and forums

Our work is overseen by the RTPI Northern Ireland Executive Committee and implemented by the Director and staff team based in Northern Ireland. The Executive Committee’s remit includes:

  • working closely with the National Director to deliver on shared priorities and goals
  • advising on the development of events and CPD for members
  • Supporting members in their professional activities
  • building and strengthen the Institute's relations with key stakeholders in Northern Ireland.
  • Develop the Institute's position on planning policy in Northern Ireland.
  • share insights and updates with the Board of Trustees so they can make well-informed decisions.

Details of the rules governing the work of the Executive Committee can be found in the Scheme of Delegation.

We also have a Policy Forum that is a sub-forum of the Executive Committee.

The Forum's membership comprises Corporate, Fellow and Associate RTPI members from across Northern Ireland, with a range of planning interests.

The Forum sits for a two year term and plays a key role in the work of RTPI Northern Ireland, including:

  • Supporting the development of RTPI Northern Ireland planning and related policy positions, including advising on responses to consultations
  • Contributing to establishing RTPI Northern Ireland positions
  • Promoting the use of research, evidence and the good practice of planning across Wales.)

How do I get involved?

  • We meet 4 times a year usually in the evening for around 2 hours, with a mix of in person and hybrid meetings at accessible locations in the region.
  • We have a committee drop in September which you would be welcome to attend.
  • Visit the Northern Ireland volunteering pages to find out more about the roles available.
