RTPI Cymru Young Planner of the Year Award
RTPI Cymru Welsh Young Planner of the Year celebrates the talent of early career planners in Wales
The award seeks out the brightest RTPI members in the early stages of their careers. In recognising and rewarding excellence we aim to inspire others to achieve the same high standards. Candidates can work in any area of the industry.
The winner of the 2026 Wales Young Planner of the Year is Ruth Jones from WSP.
Ruth is a Principal Town Planner and a chartered member of the RTPI and works within WSP's Infrastructure Planning Team in the Cardiff Office. She has gained project experience from a wide range of development projects in the UK, across a number of different consenting routes.
Ruth has undertaken secondment roles with Welsh Government, supporting throughout the DCO Examination for Wylfa Newydd Nuclear Power Station, with EDF Energy for Hinkley Point C, supporting in the discharge of DCO Requirements during the construction period, and with National Grid, as part of the consenting team for the Sea Link project.
The judging panel said: "A brilliant ambassador of professional planning and a key person in assisting other young planners to progress their careers and contribute meaningfully to deliver good planning. Ruth has specialist experience in progressing complicated projects of significant size. An excellent submission"
