Ceredigion County Council’s countywide programme of Conservation Area Appraisals and Management Plans, delivered as a core component of a wider placemaking strategy for each town. Planners secured Transforming Towns Funding to address conservation areas designated between the 1970s and 1990s that had never previously been appraised. Adopted as Supplementary Planning Guidance, the Appraisals provide a robust evidence base for development management decisions and appeals, while aligning with a full suite of Place Making Plans. Extensive community engagement shaped the Plans, which now support heritage‑led regeneration, climate action and delivery initiatives such as Aberystwyth’s forthcoming Pride in Place Townscape Improvement Grant.
