Stone Recreation Ground submitted by Graham Simpkin Planning (GSP) and Stone Parish Council (SPC)
This is a true planning success story for the UK's planning system in the 21st century: from the multiple public consultation events that took place, to the achievement of key neighbourhood plan objectives; from funding secured through both Borough and Parish CIL, to the economic, wellbeing, health, and social cohesion benefits delivered to both the existing and future communities within the Parish; from delivery in advance of an adjoining major housing development of more than 750 homes, to the application of inclusive and sustainable construction principles; and from the wide range of facilities provided, to the creation of a landmark, well-designed community building.
The judges felt that the project was an excellent example of planning delivering lasting community benefits through innovative planning strategies, strong public engagement, and a clear focus on local needs.
The judges praised the extensive consultation process, which helped shape an accessible and inclusive community facility that supports wellbeing, recreation, and social cohesion for both existing residents and a growing population.
The scheme successfully combined cost-effective, phased delivery with high-quality design, sustainability measures, and biodiversity enhancements, creating a widely supported community asset that demonstrates the positive impact of planning-led placemaking.
Well done to Graham Simpkin Planning (GSP) and Stone Parish Council (SPC).
