Coronation Place, Uckfield submitted by Wealden District Council
Coronation Place is a council-led brownfield redevelopment in Uckfield, delivering 20 affordable homes on the former Streatfeild House site. Completed in March 2025 and now fully occupied, the scheme is 100% affordable, comprising 18 homes for social rent and two for shared ownership. The homes achieve EPC A ratings and are carbon-zero ready, featuring air source heat pumps, solar PV panels, triple glazing, and mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR), alongside electric vehicle charging for every property. Inclusive planning has been central to the scheme, with two wheelchair-accessible homes incorporating through-floor lifts. Existing woodland habitat has been retained and enhanced through a range of biodiversity measures.
The judges were impressed by this outstanding council-led affordable housing development, which demonstrates excellence in design, accessibility, and sustainability, delivering high-quality, energy-efficient homes within a thoughtfully planned and inclusive environment.
The judges praised the scheme for its successful integration of wheelchair-accessible homes and biodiversity enhancements, including woodland retention, bee bricks, bat boxes, and hedgehog highways. These features sit alongside EV charging and cycle storage to support sustainable living. Strong planning leadership helped balance housing delivery with environmental stewardship, while high-quality landscaping, varied materials, and seamless integration with the surrounding area have created an attractive and resilient community that provides lasting benefits for residents and the wider environment.
Well done to Wealden District Council.
