Congratulations to Carter Jonas for their nomination Joy's Corner, winner of Best Homes and Communities Scheme at the RTPI East of England Planning Excellence Awards 2026.

Joy’s Corner, nominated by Carter Jonas, was awarded the winner in the Best Homes and Communities Scheme for its innovative approach to delivering high-quality modular homes that support people transitioning out of homelessness.

The project combines dignified, self-contained living with personalised on-site support, creating a safe and inclusive micro-community designed with near Passivhaus efficiency, biodiversity enhancements and sustainable drainage. Despite the constraints of a challenging site, Joy’s Corner revitalises an underused plot and demonstrates a socially driven, low-carbon model that is both ambitious and replicable.

Its focus on addressing homelessness, improving safety and providing excellent access to essential services showcases a thoughtful and compassionate approach to small-site community housing, offering valuable lessons for future schemes.
