The National Planning Improvement Champion was established in the 2019 Planning Act to monitor the performance of planning authorities and to provide advice to them (and others) on what steps might be taken to improve their performance.

At this event Craig McLaren will outline the Champion's role and the work that has been undertaken in the first 6 months since he took up post. He will discuss the conclusions of his recent call for ideas on what makes a high performing planning authority and how this is shaping a new national planning improvement framework. There will also be time for Q+A.

By attending this event you can:

  • Hear about the Improvement Service’s recent call for ideas on improving the planning system
  • Hear about views on how the planning system could be improved
  • Hear about how stakeholders can work together to improve the planning system
