Bishop Auckland is enjoying an extraordinary renaissance with unprecedented public and private investment, moving from declining large market town to regional and national cultural destination aided by a suite of heritage led regeneration projects including regenerative tourism.  This joint event with IHBC North will look at the strategic background and the town wide projects plus an introduction to The Auckland Project.

The day will also include two walking tours; Newgate Street, a location for the newly approved STACK development and the market place which features Auckland Tower (shortlisted in the 2019 RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence heritage and culture category). This will show us first-hand how heritage-led regeneration can have a positive impact on a town experiencing a declining high street. We will also visit Auckland Castle, including the walled garden and the Faith Museum.
