This webinar forms part of our RTPI Online series and is brought to you by the North West Region.
Towns and cities are much more than their physical built environment: buildings, streets and public spaces. They are livings the health of which is closely linked to that of people. There is a long-established link between planning and 'healthy communities', and one of the most important lessons learned from COVID-19 is that healthy environments create healthy communities in which 'everyone' can thrive.
Planning for healthy communities therefore means planning for everyone. It focuses on the positive impacts of planning, design and regeneration on everyone's physical and mental health, wellbeing and the quality of life. It has regard to the role of planning in promoting inclusive environments, sustainable neighbourhoods and active lifestyles, as well as the influence of planning on the wider environmental, social and economic determinants of public health and wellbeing.
This event is focused on the principles of healthy planning and draws on the good examples of efforts that have put the desire for healthy communities back at the heart of planning practice.
