Dr Meadhbh Maguire

Principal Planner with Highland Council

Dr Meadhbh Maguire is a Principal Planner with Highland Council and a Lecturer in Geography at the University of the Highlands and Islands. She is a planning researcher with over 10 years’ experience, holding a PhD from McGill University, in Montreal. Her research focuses on health, food environments and data‑driven regulation. In 2021 she won the RTPI Early Career Research Excellence Award. She has since worked in partnership with Nesta and Public Health Scotland to explore how the Scottish planning system can intervene in food environments since the adoption of National Planning Framework 4. She most recently received the RTPI Early Career Research Grant to investigate how health-focussed planning policy clusters form, using the case of takeaway food outlet regulation in four local government areas in the North East.
