How to effectively communicate with young people in a school setting

Engaging with young people in a school setting requires clear, supportive, and encouraging communication. This guide outlines key principles to ensure your interaction is positive and impactful. 

1) Use clear and accessible language

  • Avoid jargon or overly technical terms. 
  • Speak at a measured pace to ensure understanding. 
  • Encourage questions to check comprehension. 

2) Adopt a friendly and approachable manner

  • Smile and maintain open body language. 
  • Make eye contact to demonstrate attentiveness. 
  • Show enthusiasm about your career and the opportunities it offers.
     

3) Listen actively

  • Allow young people to express their thoughts and concerns.
