An overview of careers fair activities
These careers fair resources include a variety of activities to choose from. These activities can be delivered in isolation or you can use a combination of activities. These activities are designed to be a starting point and they can be adapted to fit any local context.
There are three different activities:
- Closed question
- Open question
- Image
Links to these activities can be found below. They include everything you need to carry out the activity as well as numerous sizes and versions of the activity so you can choose what is best for you and for the equipment you have. The resources can be printed or displayed on a screen.
These activities are very versatile and could also be used in different settings such as in a classroom or a school assembly.
Closed question activity
This activity is a question for students to think about. The question has a correct numerical answer.
This activity can be done in several ways. It can be used as a prompt for discussion or as a ‘guess how many sweets in the jar’ style activity where the students write their name next to an answer and then a prize is given to the correct answer.
The resources include:

- A4 activity – this comes with options to include an image or not as well as colour and black & white.
- A3 activity - this comes with options to include an image or not as well as colour and black & white.
- List of closed questions – these are alternatives you may choose to use.
- Guesses grids – these are available in A4 and A3 and there are both numerical and percentages so you can choose the best one for your chosen question:
Open question activity
This activity is a question for students to think about. The question does not have a correct answer and is designed to facilitate a discussion.
The resources include:

- A4 activity – this comes with options to include an image or not as well as colour and black & white.
- A3 activity - this comes with options to include an image or not as well as colour and black & white.

Image activity
This activity is an image for students to study and think about. There are questions designed to facilitate a discussion around the image.
The resources include:
- Activity instructions
- Activity discussion prompts – suggested questions to ask, possible answers the student may give and suggested responses
- A4 activity – this comes with options to include an image or not as well as colour and black & white.
- A3 activity - this comes with options to include an image or not as well as colour and black & white.
- Answers to the questions posed on the image
The resources also contain documents with advice on how to effectively communicate with young people and a document with a little activity to prompt a discussion about skills needed by a planner.
