Progressing our digital first strategy
The RTPI’s digital first strategy has two elements. Firstly, we want to make optimum use of technology to enable the RTPI to operate more productively and efficiently while improving members’ experience. Secondly, we want to support planning services to become more digital and help our members to navigate digital transformation.
- Operational effectiveness
To enhance the operational effectiveness of the RTPI, we adopted a transformation programme that focused on modernising platforms and integrating systems and processes. We also moved our entire IT infrastructure to the cloud, improving the cost-effectiveness, flexibility, scalability and security of our IT systems.
Digital transformation is an ongoing process. So, we will keep investing in new technologies that enable us to operate more efficiently and deliver even better and more tailored services to our members. Where possible, we will look to harness the power of emerging innovation, such as artificial intelligence tools.
- Digital planning services
Innovation in planning services is essential for ensuring that the planning system delivers on the expectations of stakeholders in the digital age. Our vision is for a digital planning system where data is collected, used and shared in ways that promote transparency, understanding, interoperability and inclusiveness.
We have advocated for a digital planning system through our Digital Planning Manifesto. Additionally, we have collaborated with Governments and universities across the nations on the digital agenda.
Our commitment to digital planning is further underlined by our research study, From Analogue to Digital: an exploration of planning and technology. This study explores planners’ use and perceptions of specific technologies and the barriers that prevent them from embracing technologically focused planning reforms.
