RTPI response to the revised draft Airports National Policy Statement

The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) welcomes the opportunity to provide evidence to the Department for Transport’s consultation on the revised draft Airports National Policy Statement on new runway capacity and infrastructure at airports in the south-east of England.

The government believes that the need for additional capacity in the south-east of England is best met by a new north-west runway at Heathrow Airport. The planning policy framework which the applicant for a north-west runway at Heathrow Airport would have to comply with in order to get development consent is set out in the draft Airports National Policy Statement. The Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) response highlights six key NPS requirements on: sustainable development, integration with other policies, capacity and demand, safety and technology, adverse impacts and location of infrastructure.
