RTPI South East Awards for Planning Excellence 2016
The winners of this year's RTPI South East Awards for Planning Excellence 2016 were announced on 29 September at a spectacular event at the top of the Emirates Spinaker Tower in Portsmouth. The winners were:
Regional Winner 2016:
Meadow Road in Worthing, by Worthing Borough Council and Worthing Homes
Meadow Road (pictured right) is an innovative housing scheme which replaced 48 sub-standard flats with 12 family homes for affordable rent in a neighbourhood with complex deprivation issues. An existing block of flats for vulnerable residents who were unable to move was also refurbished. The project delivered clear health benefits for residents and reduced anti-social behaviour issues associated with the old housing. There was extensive, meaningful engagement by Worthing Borough Council and Worthing Homes with the community which contributed to its success.
Gareth Giles, Chair of RTPI South East said:
"Meadow Road is an outstanding housing scheme which demonstrates effective community involvement, commitment to sustainable design and a clear focus on delivering high quality accommodation for new residents. This is an exceptional example of how planners worked with architects to deliver good quality housing."
