PLAN THE WORLD WE NEED: REQUEST TO MEET
Warmest congratulations on your appointment as Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
Like your government, the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Ireland believes that the post COVID-19 recovery is a priority, and we are firmly of the view that planners, planning and the planning system have an important role to play in this. We have just published a new research paper “Plan the World We Need” that sets out how planners are vital to a sustainable, resilient and inclusive recovery that delivers on net-zero targets. It discusses how planners and a place-based decision-making approach are necessary to guide economic stimulus post-COVID, in order to maximise investment in public and active transport, healthy place-making, renewable energy and smart grid technology, resilient infrastructure, climate mitigation, investment in communities, a national programme of building retrofit and right housing in the right places. I attach a copy.
We are keen to discuss with you how your government can capitalise on the expertise of spatial planners to ensure that the renewed focus on sustainable and active travel, reduction of pollution and increased use of technology is sustained post-pandemic alongside a successful economic recovery. Given RTPI Ireland’s extensive network of members across the public, private and voluntary sector we are well placed to assist you. We are well connected through the wider work of the RTPI, Europe's largest professional body for town planners, with 25,000 members worldwide.
We would be happy to brief you or an advisor in person and provide you with access to our research, analysis and expertise on this. Our Director, Craig McLaren can be contacted on 08925 15649 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like this to be arranged.
We look forward to working with you.
