The Landscape Led Approach to Design of Development in the National Park

Thursday, 10 October 2019 at 6:00PM - 9:00PM
South Downs Centre, North Street, Midhurst, West Sussex GU29 9DH
RTPI South East

The first purpose of the national park is to conserve and enhance the natural beauty, wildlife and cultural heritage of the area. At the same time the South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) is one of the largest LPAs in the UK both in terms of number of planning applications and geographical extent. To resolve the potential conflicts between these two drivers the new SDNP Local Plan emphasises that development needs to demonstrate a ‘landscape led approach’. This talk will cover what the landscape led approach means in policy terms, what is expected of applicants and how it is being applied in practice.

With presentations by Mark Waller-Gutierrez and Ruth Childs, South Downs National Park Authority

Hosted by the Landscape Institute South East and the RTPI South East, sponsored by fabrik
