The Scottish Land Commission was established under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act 2016 and became fully operational on 1 April 2017. The Commission seeks to create a Scotland where everybody benefits from the ownership, management and importantly for planners, the use of the nation’s land and buildings. Scottish Land Commissioner Megan MacInnes and Policy Officer Kathie Pollard will give an insight on the Commission’s work in relation to land use planning and discuss the contribution that can be made by planners in furthering land reform. Topics include land for housing and development, land value capture as well as Vacant and Derelict Land.

The event will also have a particular focus on the role of planners in promoting public interest led development in Scotland. It will seek to explore the following:

  • What are the barriers and opportunities for delivering more public interest led development in Scotland?
  • What is the role for planners in delivering this type of development?
