The May Future of Town Centres conference will have covered the changing mix of uses which have the potential to sustain town and city centres as many of their traditional activities are increasingly conducted on-line.
This conference will focus on how we can exploit changing economic and social patterns and bring them into play to produce great places to meet, work, live and conduct our collective social and cultural lives. Using Newcastle’s East Pilgrim Street area as a base for our work, we will explore the implications of the changing roles of town and city centres and how we can use them to produce places which can respond richly to wider aspirations in terms of the creation of environments which are healthy, inclusive and age-friendly. Issues, principles, opportunities and potential synergies and conflicts will be introduced by a range of speakers. Delegates will then have the opportunity to view the area and work in groups to design with uses to outline broad urban design strategies for the area.
