Dorset Young Planners bring you their Autumn CPD and social event 'Vacant Spaces & Meanwhile Uses' to discuss how Vacant Shops and spaces in our towns and cities can be used temporarily to revitilise our empty highstreets.
Retail vacancy rates have become headline news in recent years and are unfortunately a reality for the majority of town centres across the UK.
However, every cloud has a silver lining, and meanwhile uses are seeing these spaces become meaningful places.
A ‘meanwhile use’ is a temporary use of vacant buildings or land for a socially beneficial use until such time as the building or land can be brought back into commercial use again.
Speakers include:
- Andrew Knutt who is a Culture and Business Developer with the Dorchester based Arts Development Company (ADC). ADC ‘works with partners from the arts and in other sectors to develop strategies and policies, encourage networks, and deliver collaborative programmes and projects.’ One of their projects is facilitating artists’ to set up pop-ups in vacant spaces: See here
- Jean Marshall, Head of Planning at Dorset Councils Partnership
Social: Following the presentations Dorset YP Steering Group invite you to stay on and join them at a local burger bar (food and refreshments included in cost).
