Dewsbury Town Centre has recently been the subject of substantial improvements, including the repair of Pioneer House, a listed former co-operative department store which incorporated a theatre (later a cinema) on the top floor, and is now being converted to accommodate part of Kirklees College Dewsbury Campus.

At the same time, repairs, including windows and shop fronts, have been carried out in the town centre with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The Council have an approved Heritage Action Zone (HAZ) in place in partnership with Historic England to deliver improvements and new uses in the Daisy Hill area of the town centre.

The improvement of the forecourt to Dewsbury Railway Station is underway and the improvement of the public realm in front of Pioneer House will be discussed.

The planning and co-ordination of these developments is the subject of this seminar.

A walking tour of Dewsbury town centre will also be included in the programme and will include Pioneer House, Townscape Heritage works and the proposed Hertiage Action Zone in Dewsbury town centre.
