Design Solutions to the Housing Crisis
The Urban Design Network Conference will be taking place online on Thursday 2 November. This half-day event will focus on 'Design Solutions to the Housing Crisis'
This year's conference takes the housing crisis as its starting point, and explores an array of different design approaches to boosting the number of homes in the UK. There has been a tendency in recent years for a single specific, sometimes innovative, approach to be touted as “the answer” to the housing crisis. This conference proposes that many solutions should be pursued simultaneously, tailored to the needs of an area. We’ll be presenting a range of approaches at different scales and contexts, from new settlements to suburban intensification. We’ll be asking our presenters to think about the opportunities, challenges and practical application of their approach, so attendees can understand whether it could be useful for the places where they are working.
This year's speakers will cover the following topics:
-
Building on Britain's “Road Belt”
-
Opportunities for new settlements
-
Urban densification
-
Retrofit at Scale
