Trudi Elliott CEO of the RTPI and Stephen Litherland Chair of the RTPI North East Region greeted guests at the RTPI NE Centenary Reception held at the Holiday Inn, Jesmond Road Newcastle on Wednesday 26th February. Chairman Stephen Litherland expressed his delight at being Chairman during this landmark year. Steve went on to thank all those people who had contributed to the evenings reception and who were also sponsoring other events throughout the year.
The “Headline sponsors for the whole year” Barton Willmore and Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners were delighted with the turn out and are looking forward to being present for the rest of the Centenary Activities.
Guests from across the region included planners from the public and private sector, lawyers, developers, consultants, and ex regional chairman from as far back as 1988 there were over 140 guests.
Trudi Elliot thanked all those people who over the years have made the RTPI NE such a successful region. Without naming individuals, Trudi identified the roles of those key players, Chairman, Honorary Secretaries, Treasurers, Member and Public Relations officers, and the organisations who for years have continued to sponsor and support RTPI NE Activity, without whom the RTPI would not have been able to provide all the services it does. Trudi ended her address by asking guests to raise their glasses to the RTPI – on its 100th birthday.

Here are just a few of the Comments from the sponsors/guests
Kamran Hyder of Bond Dickinson LLP: continuing strong links with the RTPI North East were delighted to be included as an event sponsor in relation to the Institute’s regional Centenary Reception. We were pleased that the evening was so well attended by members of the Institute and other professionals associated with the construction industry and look forward to participating in and hosting further events in the RTPI NE region in the Institute’s centenary year
Miles Walker Fairhurst said: “Fairhurst were more than happy to assist in sponsoring the event. Whilst we thought the event would and should be a success, the response on the night was beyond our expectations not only in numbers attending, the broad cross section of careers represented and age groups, but also the positive attitude in the room. This possibly reflected the improvement in the economy and the development of careers, but also the way the profession was heading.”
Neil Robson, Ward Hadaway said: “It was a great pleasure to be present at such a well organised event and we were delighted to sponsor such a landmark occasion for the RTPI”
Richard Newsome, GVA said: “It was great to see such a fantastic turn out for the Centenary Reception from members of the RTPI and their guests. It was wonderful to have such a broad attendance from people across the North East region and also from those at different stages in their careers. Events like the Reception offer good opportunities for members to catch up, network, and enjoy themselves. GVA looks forward to supporting more RTPI North East events in the RTPI’s centenary year and beyond.”
Jonathan Wallace, Nathaniel Lichfield & Partners: “It was very well attended and organised and on a personal level, great to see so many familiar faces – and to catch up with people I hadn’t seen in a long while. Well done to you and everyone else involved in the organisation of the event and best of luck with the other events planned for the rest of the Centenary Year”.
