New Zealand planners host RTPI President

03 June 2015

Janet NZJanet Askew, President of the RTPI (pictured, right) recently visited the New Zealand Planning Institute in Auckland, where she was asked to talk about planning in the UK. In her presentation to a full house of 80 planners, she spoke about the ambitions of planners in the UK & Ireland and discussed some of the issues and, at times, contradictions in policy. What is emerging is a similarity in the problems and challenges that cities round the world are facing. Janet said: "In Auckland, urban sprawl is a major subject for debate, and discussions about urban growth and densification are happening everywhere. I am being invited to engage in these debates in all the cities I am visiting on my overseas visits."

Janet welcomed several RTPI members to the presentation in New Zealand, and was particularly pleased to see three of her former students from the University of the West of England in the audience. The RTPI now has members in more than 80 countries.

Do you know where the RTPI has members overseas? You might be surprised.

Check the list of where we have members.
