Freiburg’s sustainable city visionary to speak at RTPI Scotland’s annual lecture

28 July 2015

Wulf Daseking

Cities in evolution, the seminal work by the ‘father of modern town planning' Sir Patrick Geddes, is celebrating its centenary in 2015.

Every year, RTPI Scotland holds a Commemorative Lecture in honour of Sir Patrick Geddes' profound contribution to town planning,

In 2015 the lecture will be given by Wulf Daseking (pictured, left), former Chief Planning Officer in Freiburg, Germany and current Professor at the University of Freiburg’s Institute of Sociology.

Freiburg (pictured, below) is regularly cited as a model for eco cities and the way in which planning was used to create one of the most livable and sustainable cities in the world. Between 1984 and 2012 Wulf Daseking oversaw the development of two low carbon, transport oriented, sustainable communities – Rieselfeld and Vauban - which have given Freiburg its international reputation for sustainability.

Visit RTPI Scotland for more information.

The lecture will be held on Tuesday 22 September at The Hub Castle Hill, Edinburgh.

Tickets are £15 +VAT and can be booked via email.
