Network 'Hot Topics': we want your views

This month's hot topic is:

Peak Oil – are we planning for it?

According to the Oil Depletion Analysis Centre, global oil production will almost certainly go into sustained decline in the next few years. The severe spikes in energy prices that this will cause will have potentially devastating social and economic impacts, and requires a revolution in the way we plan for the future and in how we lead our lives. The questions we would like you to think about are:

  • Do you believe the phenomenon of peak oil?
  • What areas of policy do you think will be most affected?
  • Do you think enough is being done to plan for it?
  • What do you think should be done to mitigate peak oil and its impacts?
  • Are the impacts of peak oil the same as those of climate change? And are the mitigation measures the same?
