Practice

clear sky child webWe draw on the expertise within our Research and Knowledge and Policy teams, as well as the RTPI committees, Nations and Regions and Networks and Associations, to provide up-to-date information, support and assistance to members in practice.  Our integrated projects also draw on research to develop both policy and practice. Our Policy and Practice Committee keeps all of this work in overview. The routes through which we provide our services are outlined below.

Good Practice Notes

Good Practice Notes prepared by the RTPI provide practice advice on key topics.  We are reviewing and replacing the existing RTPI Practice Advice Notes (PANs) as necessary.

We also signpost to practice advice provided by others, including planning practice guidance issued by governments. We select our own practice advice topics carefully to avoid duplicating other good advice, particularly where this has been provided by governments.

Our Code of Professional Conduct underpins the effective practice of all RTPI members.

Lifelong learning

Effective practice is underpinned by lifelong learning and continuing professional development. We organise conferences, seminars, workshops to support members’ practice development, and provide online learning modules through PlanningMatters.
