Policy

Child%20wind%20farmThe RTPI aims to lead policy debates, establish new approaches and influence the policies of others. The policy team keeps the development of planning legislation and policy under review and ensures the consistent application of RTPI policy on a wide range of topics.

Our policy statements set out RTPI policy. Policy statements set out corporate RTPI policy positions as well as providing leadership and proactively influence the development of spatial planning policy and practice.

Our completed policy responses set out the RTPI position on government and other consultations relevant to spatial planning.  Members can view the current policy response work programme and make a contribution.

We communicate our policy work to stakeholders through lobbying, the media and this website.

  • Our Planning Policy and Practice Committee maintains a UK and Ireland overview of policy issues.
  • There are national Policy Forums for England, Ireland and Cymru/Wales.
  • The RTPI in Scotland maintains a close overview of Scottish issues.
  • You can get involved in policy development work for your RTPI Nation or Region, wherever you are.
  • Our Networks and Associations regularly participate in policy development and also publish bulletins which include views on policy from members and ask for policy contributions. Sign up and volunteer to help with policy.
