Governance
The Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) is governed, under the provisions of its Royal Charter and Byelaws, through an Executive Board with a General Assembly, supported by various regional and specialism-based committees. We also hold an Annual General Meeting which is open to all RTPI members, allowing them to play a part in any major decisions.
The General Assembly provides a forum for debate about the development of planning policy and practice. It is also responsible for the RTPI’s corporate policy. Each year, the Assembly elects six corporate members, a young planner and an association representative for the Executive Board.
The Executive Board is responsible for the management of the RTPI’s affairs as well as promoting key objectives.
We also have a number of committees, including the Scottish Executive Committee - which has extensive delegated authority for running the RTPI in Scotland, networks, specialist panels and working groups.
The RTPI Regions & Nations have their own Executive Committees elected by members.
