Richard Wood

Richard WoodRichard is a chartered town planner and works as an independent planning consultant. He set up Richard Wood Associates in 2016 drawing on over 27 years planning, transport, and management experience. Richard has worked in the public and private sectors across the Yorkshire and Humber region. He was previously a Director at O'Neill Associates in York and Assistant Director for Strategic Planning and Transport at City of York Council.  

As Head of Strategy at the Yorkshire and Humber Assembly Richard led the preparation of the Yorkshire and Humber Plan, the Regional Spatial Strategy. He was also involved with the Regional Transport Strategy and funding programmes. Richard started his career at Hull City Council and also worked at the East Riding of Yorkshire Council, leading the development of a Joint Structure Plan with Hull. He has a particular interest and expertise in strategic planning, local plan making and policy development.

By working at a senior level, including as a Chief Officer, and for multi-disciplinary consultants Jacobs Babtie and economic consultants York Consulting Limited, Richard has gained a broad spread of experience. He provided transport planning and management support for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014 and has been involved with major development and transport projects. Richard enjoys following the professional rugby league (black and white) and football teams in Hull and is looking forward to the 2017 City of Culture events and celebrations in the City.
