Meryl completed an environmental sciences degree from the University of Durham and took a gap year following graduation. During this time she looked into town planning as an occupation and when a vacancy came up with the Environment Agency (EA) with their planning liaison team, she jumped at the chance. She's been working at the EA for the past five and a half years getting to comment on both planning applications and local plans as a statutory consultee. During this time she was sponsored to do a Masters in town and regional planning at Leeds Metropolitan University. She is currently a licentiate member of the RTPI.
Meryl has been involved with both the RAC committee and YORnet committee since 2009 and chairs the YORnet sub-group responsible for organising the RTPI Young Planners Conference in 2013, which will be held in Leeds.
