Before moving to Bristol in 2016 Peter was Deputy Head of the Infrastructure and Environment Division in DCLG's Planning Directorate, leading on a wide range of high profile planning and environmental policy including renewable energy, flooding, strategic and environmental impact assessment and local environmental protection. He was also responsible for EU business relating to planning.  Highlights in a Whitehall career of over 25 years include co-authoring John Prescott's Integrated Transport White Paper and writing the first planning framework for Thames Gateway. Before becoming a civil servant, Peter worked as a planner in local government and for a national housebuilder.  He is currently a freelance planner and trustee of the Centre for Sustainable Energy.
