Centenary Debate Series
During 2014 the RTPI NW will be holding two Centenary Debates, looking at the big planning topics of the day and what they mean for the future of planning. They will bring together respected planning experts to debate the hottest topics of the profession, the series aims to create a professional debate with a touch of 'Fight Club' mixed in. We strongly encourage your participation in this as a lively and informal way of airing your views on planning.
The first debate looks at the future of heritage and we will be debating the idea that more modern buildings should be listed. Join us on the 1st May at County Hall in Preston to hear our informed panel debate this issue and to form your own opinion on our future heritage. Details here
The last debate poses the question, should Urban Design survive as a core element of a planning system forced to balance increasingly competing land use demands?' Join us on the 27th November at the Victoria Gallery and Museum, Liverpool to air your views on urban design and the planning balance.
Email Bev Watson (firstname.lastname@example.org) to reserve your place at each or all of these events, turn up, enjoy refreshments, lend us your ears and your voices.
100km Centenary Bike Ride (plus a shorter distance for the less keen cyclist!)
A Centenary Bike Ride is currently being organised for members and their friends, families and colleagues. The bike ride will take place on Saturday 14 June 2014 from Booths Park, Knutsford. Register here. This event is kindly sponsored by Barton Willmore and hosted by Bruntwood.
Tomorrow's City: How would you plan a new City for the next 100 years? This is the first ever RTPI NW Student Competition, it is intended to provide a valuable experience for A-Level Geography students and a real taste of what it is like to work as a town planner.
The competition question not only provides students with an opportunity for students to think about planning, but it also can be used as a valuable teaching aid with elements of planning relating to population change and structures; resource consumption; health and well-being; development and sustainability. This competition is kindly sponsored by NLP.
This annual event is now firmly part of the footballing calendar. Start thinking of your centenary related team name now!
