Richard studied planning at Newcastle University gaining a BA Hons in Town Planning and a Diploma in Town Planning. During his Diploma course he spent a year on placement with David Lock Associates in Milton Keynes assisting with a range of high profile studies and regeneration projects.
After leaving university in 2002 Richard joined the Planning, Development and Regeneration (PDR) team at GVA as a graduate in the company’s London West End office. During his seven and a bit years in London he worked on projects across the Capital, the South East and the East of England providing planning advice to a range of public and private sector clients. Whilst in London he also completed a conversion of his Diploma to a Masters in Town Planning in his spare time.
Richard returned to the North East to work in the GVA office in Newcastle upon Tyne in January 2010. He works in the PDR team as a Principal Planner on a range of proposals including for residential, retail, industrial, commercial, education and leisure developments. His role includes undertaking planning appraisals, making representations on emerging planning policy as well as co-ordinating the preparation, submission and management of planning applications for minor and major development proposals.
He initially became involved with the RTPI North East through the CPD Steering Group assisting with the annual CPD programme and events. He is continuing his involvement with the Steering Group as Junior Vice-Chair and also contributes as a speaker at RTPI North East events.
