Born and raised in Redcar. Married with two children a girl (22) and a boy (19). B.A. (Hons) Geography Degree at Leeds University 1969-72. B. Phil Town and Regional Planning Degree at Newcastle University 1977-79.
Employed in Town Planning since 1973, at various times with Teesside County Borough, Stockton-on-Tees, and Hartlepool Councils and with Stockton City Challenge. Operated a consultancy in the late 1980s, early 1990s. Employed during 2003 by local house builder as land manager.
Currently with Tees Valley Living as Strategy and Finance Manager involved in dealing with housing market renewal and growth. In my younger days, interests included music, cross-country running, hiking, rock-climbing, sailing, canoeing, skiing and badminton. Sport nowadays tends to centre around an occasional walk on the Moors, the odd (very odd) game of golf and watching cricket at Stockton Cricket Club, in which I am currently assuming responsibility as Treasurer.
My pet subjects include the declining status of the Planning profession and the reciprocal them and us attitude of many councils and much of the development industry, and the dividends that can be gained by mutual trust and cooperative working.
