David Cullingford

David Cullingford

David has been a member of the Regional Activities and Policy Committee for too long.  He is a past chair, but still a member, of the Planning Aid Sub-Group battling to maintain a ‘planning aid’ presence within the region.  He is currently the senior vice-chair of the RTPI North East.

David is a Planning Inspector, now only in a half time capacity.  The occasional traumatic inquiry (a death, a burst artery and many tears) and recommendations to approve wind turbines on Wandylaw Moor, IKEA in Edmonton (marked by a stabbing on its opening night) and to introduce the ‘fear of crime’ as a material consideration, may indicate a long overdue need to look for pastures new.  Previously, David worked for the Gormenghastian Department of the Environment (briefly under the careful supervision of Chris Clarke) and amongst the restaurants of Charlotte Street for Wilson and Womersley, now little known, but then engaged on the Liverpool Inner Area Study (a pleasant re-acquaintance after time as a Community Service Volunteer in Toxteth during mid-1960s) and in Botswana.

David is married to Hilary.  They have three children, currently in London, Sheffield and Japan.  There is little time for paid employment, due to playing (the tenor saxophone) in the 10th Avenue Band (and occasionally elsewhere), singing in St George’s church choir, digging (Hilary’s) allotment and gallivanting here and there, including London, Sheffield (it is possible) and Japan.
