David, Region Hon Secretary since 2008, has served on the former Northern Branch Executive Committee and current Regional Management Board/Regional Activities & Policy Committee continuously since 1971 - an almost unbelievable 40+ years! He was Branch Chair in 1979-80 and Branch Treasurer for three lengthy periods between 1973 and 2002. This “commitment” was recognised by his receipt of the Institute’s Outstanding Service Award in 2009. He is currently an elected member of the Institute’s General Assembly and Audit Committee and a member of the Membership & Ethics Committee for a second year.
His early career was with Newcastle City Council and South Tyneside MBC, where he was Chief Planner for 10 years. This was followed by 11 years in planning policy posts with the Institute, and a period of part-time work as a consultant, before finally retiring from paid employment in 2010 and joining the Institute’s retired list at the start of 2011.
David intends to retire from his national and regional posts with the Institute at the end of the year.
