Tim Speed is a Chartered Engineer and is a highways and transportation consultant with 40 years experience including both highways and transportation.
His experience comprises:
Planning and design of major highway improvement/bypass schemes.
Development planning and development infrastructure design for employment, retail (food and non-food), housing and leisure developments.
Provision of expert advice at all stages of development from feasibility to implementation, masterplanning, movement strategies, preparation of transport statements, transport assessments and travel plans, junction analysis, negotiations with highway authorities, highway design, presentation of Proof of Evidence for planning appeal written representations and informal hearings, for Public Inquiries and for Lands Tribunal.
After being a Technical Director at Fairhurst and at WSP for a total of seven years, Tim set up his own successful highways and transportation consultancy business in 2010 concentrating mainly on pre-planning input to proposed development schemes.
In addition to being a member of the RTPI NE Regional Activities and Policy Committee and a member of the RTPI NE Member & Public Relations Committee, Tim is a member of the national Council of the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation, a member of two national Committees and a member of the North East & Cumbria Region committee. He was CIHT NE Chairman 2003-2004. He is also North East Region Secretary for the Forum for the Built Environment and a member of Construction Industry Council North East committee.
He and his partner train assistance dog puppies on a voluntary basis, having previously trained four Guide Dog puppies and in 2017 training a Hearing Dog for Deaf People puppy. A trainee assistance puppy is often in attendance at RTPI, CIHT and FBE committee meetings in the North East and at CIHT national committee meetings!
